BAAM at The Gem Presents A Celebration of Maine’s Deerbrook Editions Press: A Round Robin Reading by Five Maine Poets on Friday, April 4th at 7:00 pm.
Participating Poets
David Sloan’s debut poetry collection—The Irresistible In-Between—was published by Deerbrook Editions in 2013. A Rising and Other Poems, appeared in the spring of 2020, and a third collection, Earth School (both also Deerbrook Editions) launched in April of 2024. He is a two-time recipient of Maine Literary Awards, the Betsy Sholl Award, the inaugural Maine Poets Society Prize and the New Millennium Writings Award for Poetry. After teaching for nearly 50 years, most recently at Maine Coast Waldorf High School in Freeport, he is now semi-retired, content to focus on the joys of more regular writing, grandparenting, gardening, cycling, and pickleball!
Marita O’Neill lives in Portland with her dog, Sweetpea. She received her MFA in Poetry from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She has had poems published in the Maine Sunday Telegram’s “Deep Water” series, The Cafe Review, Smoky Blue, Deluge Press, and LEON Literary Review. She has a forthcoming book, Wild Nest, No Prison, coming out with Deerbrook Editions in the spring of 2025.
Dennis Camire is the author of the poetry collections, Anthology of Awe and Wonder(Deerbrook Editions, Combed by Crows (Deerbrook Editions), and Stone by Stone (Finishing Line Press). He teaches and tutors writing at Central Maine Community College. The former director of Maine Poetry Central and the founder of The Portland Poet Laureate Program, his work has appeared in The Mid-American Review, Poetry East, Spoon River Review, Lothlorien Review, Alluvium, Amethyst, Café Review, Canary, Hamilton Stone Review, Speckled Trout Review and on Maine Public Radio. He lives in an A-frame in West Paris, Maine. He is also the “spokes-poet” for the mom-and-pop owned company, “Soil Foods,” which farms worms for worm castings.
David Stankiewicz is the author of two poetry collections: Night Garden (Deerbrook Editions, 2024) and My First Beatrice (Moon Pie Press, 2013). A Professor of English & Humanities at Southern Maine Community College, David lives in Cape Elizabeth with his family.
Linda Aldrich received an MFA in Poetry from Vermont College and has published three collections of poetry, Foothold (2008), March and Mad Women (2012), and Ballast (2021). She was awarded a Maine State Poetry Award in 2023 and served as Portland’s Poet Laureate from 2018-2021. Linda hosted the Leaf of Voices poetry reading series at Portland Public Library and co-hosted the monthly Local Buzz reading series in Cape Elizabeth. Most recently, she’s had poems published in the Maine Arts Journal, The O’ Brien Collection: 300 Years of Irish Art, and was a 2024 finalist for the Charles Simic Poetry Award from Hole-in-the-Head Review. She lives in Portland, Maine.
