Legacy in Action: Historical Assets Serving Community Needs Walking Tour
Please join us for a free walking conversation hosted by the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society and the Northern Forest Center, together with more than a half dozen other community partners. We will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Gould Academy, in front of Hanscom Hall, and end at about 11:30 at the Gehring House. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water and snacks as needed.
We will be visiting buildings within Bethel's Historic District which are currently being used by local nonprofit organizations, and discussing the work those organizations are doing in our community, needs that are and are not currently being met, and ways to collaborate and get involved.
Stops along the way will include: Gould Academy (Bingham, Hanscom, and Gehring halls), West Parish Congregational Church, Hastings Block (Maine Adaptive offices), Wiley Block (Inland Woods + Trails offices), Cole Block (Town of Bethel), Bethel Library Association, Robinson and Mason Houses (Museums of the Bethel Historical Society), Hastings Homestead, and Gehring House (Northern Forest Center). Each stop on our walk will feature historical notes from Will Chapman, Executive Director of the Museums of the Bethel Historical Society, followed by informal discussion led by local nonprofit leaders.
This event is part of Jane's Walk, a global festival of free, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs. Visit janeswalkme.org to find out more about Jane's Walk events across Maine.
