Newry Maine is home to the famous artist's covered bridge on the Sunday River, the beautiful Bear river winds through Grafton Notch State Park meeting with the Androscoggin River in Newry. Newry is also home to Sunday River Ski Resort

History - First called Sunday River Plantation, it was settled in 1781 by Benjamin Barker and his two brothers from Methuen, Massachusetts, together with Ithiel Smith of Cape Elizabeth. In 1805 settler's re-named the plantation Newry after a settlement in northern Ireland that also shares this name.
